BALLO_R_OMO (Ballo in Rome for him / her Omo)

is a sports association / promotion of social partner dance to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of Rome.

The association works in Rome in January 2007. The initiative stemmed from two guys who did the dancing man abroad and meeting in Rome wanted to spread their passion for dance as a couple.

The association welcomes dancers of varying skill: from the most skilled, who have obviously learned to dance to the less experienced and also and especially to those who want to learn to dance. The aim is to socialize in a friendly environment. Who's afraid of being ridiculous, know that the environment is supportive of the ball and no one ever laughs of the other dancers, whatever their talent.

For now, the meetings consist of a dance lesson in about an hour to an hour of dance style followed by 'social' in which various dance styles - opportunity to put into practice foreground.

BalloROmO

(Rome's GLBT dancing association )

BalloROmO is a sport and social association that promotes Ballroom and Latin dancing amongst gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Rome .

The association was created in Rome in January 2007. It was born when two guys who had done Ballroom and Latin abroad met in Rome and decided to share their passion for dancing with others.

The association welcomes dancers of all skills and experience – from those who are proficient dancers to those with less experience, and it specially welcomes people with no experience at all who wish to learn how to dance. The aim of the association is to socialise in a friendly environment. To those who may fear ridicule, we say that this is a caring environment where nobody laughs at others regardless of theirs skills or lack thereof.

At present, our meetings involve a one-hour lesson focusing on one dance and around one hour of social dancing with different styles – this is a chance to put into practice what has just been learned.

It is not necessary to show up with a dancing partner. You meet your dancing partner at the lesson; we rotate partners in order to learn from and to practice with different people. The lessons do not adhere to the traditional division between men and women; we only make a difference between those who lead and those who follow. Therefore, there are not fix roles on the basis of one’s gender. We do not say things such as “Who is the man?” or “Who is the woman? we ask instead “Do you lead or follow?”

Ballroom and Latin are not difficult, just like anything else, one learns gradually by practising regularly, also because there are a few different styles. At the moment we have started with salsa lessons, and we will later offer Argentinean tango, samba, waltz, jive, cha-cha, group dances, etc.

Dancing is not only for young people, dancing has no age and it is open to everyone; therefore, we extend you a warm invitation to join us!

Gay Gordons is the name of a folk Scottish dance group geared toward the GLBT community in London. The group started business in 2005 and since then meets weekly. ROME TO HOST THE 2008 EUROPEAN GENERAL

ASSEMBLY SPORTS OF GAY

Arcigay Group Fish and Rome, backed by Agensport – Regione Lazio , have been successful in obtaining the appointment of Rome as the host city for the 2008 General Assembly of the EGLSF ( European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation ), with the unanimous vote of the 100 delegates from all over Europe that met at Madrid some days ago. The Assembly will be in charge of assessing the candidates to host the 2011 European ‘ Gay Games’, known as EUROGAMES . This event is a sort of Gay Olympics, involving 8000 Gay and Lesbian athletes from over 40 countries, participating in around 20 different sports.

The EGLSF has its own representative at the Council of Europe who holds an advisory role in projects aiming at fighting discrimination and homophobia in sport. Furthermore, the EGLSF is a member of the “ Football Against Racism in Europe ” (FARE) network, an organisation that fights racism and homophobia in football, recognised by the FIFA . Last month FARE, together with UEFA, sent a brochure to all Italian football clubs suggesting measures to fight homophobia in football stadiums.

“We are delighted about this victory, because it means that, for the first time, Italy will lead a European debate on the fight against discrimination against Gays and Lesbians through sport– stated Fabrizio Marrazzo, chairperson of Arcigay Sport and Paolo Sordini, president of Gruppo Pesce Roma, supporters of the Rome bid – because sport helps integration and also to fight homophobia that many gay and lesbian youths encounter when they start practising a sport and find they are often rejected by their fellows.”

Friday, March 9th we danced the Salsa. We gathered in a friend's house and under the leadership of Henry that made us a lesson we started BalloRomo.

between us beginners who had never danced, amateurs with a little 'of experience and even professional dancers. There were mature students and young professionals. We enjoyed them all.

Many had never danced in couples with men and the experience was liberating. The group is very informal, the lesson is serious and professional, but Henry can correct encouraging and maintaining an ironic and playful.

After the lesson we danced freely ... making a big mess with the passages I have just learned: There will be other opportunities to further improve, for now we've broken the ice.

I am very happy. I knew the dance hall gay / lesbian in Milan at the "new idea". At that time there was still "Dancing with the Stars" and I watched fascinated with suspicion but those pairs of men (or women) who were dancing together. Then I lived abroad and the couple dance gay / lesbian for me was a fun way to socialize and meet interesting people. Again the evening made me know fabulous friends a hug at all.
